Default Stopped driving vette

I had to stop driving the vette today. :mad I got this great NCRS judging book and I was looking around at all the numbers on the car. I jacked up the reared to get a look at the differential and verified the numbers were for a 3:70 rear-end(thought that was what I had since I ran ~3400rpm at ~70mph). I decided to check the rear bearing passenger side since I know they were in need of replacement since last year. The passenger side was the tighter of the two sides. After rocking the tire top to bottom, I was surprised at how much more play there was than last year. I am now afraid to drive her since the bearings are real bad. I have found a great place in town that only works on vintage cars(and he has a few vettes currently in the shop), but he has been backlogged for the last several weeks. Hopefully I can get her in soon for some rearend :) work. For now she sits quietly in the garage.

I bought the bearing assemblies from Bair's. $150/side. Had a friend help install them. They were pretty easy to do.

IMHO shops that rebuild the control arms mostly just charge for painting the stupid things. Greasing up the bearings and installing them are nuts and bolts...no special tools required. Bubba would be bored with how nice the parts fit together. I had a shop rebuild both my control arms including replacement of the spindles, and the bill was over $2,000 with over half of it labor. They didn't list grease or paint so it's probably the difference between the parts and the time it really takes to rebuid the control arms.
