I'm going with an 184 siamesed bore bowtie block for my new build. This is originally a 1 piece rear main seal block, so i'll need to use an adapter to fit my crank in it.
I have a question about the pans to use with these blocks. I think i would have to use a 1986 and up pan on it. But would these pans fit my timing cain cover (off and early style block). I wouldn't like to throw it away since it was a billet alu 2 piece one and pretty expensive.
They make 2 different 2-piece seal adapters that you can buy. One uses the '87(?) up 1-piece seal pan and they other uses the older style pan. Either one will accept most any time chain cover. I've build both and never had an issue running a run-of-the-mill timing cover on either.
I will say this... When you're assembling any motor using an adapter like that, pay close attention to sealing it up properly. Use the adapter to block gasket whenever possible and a light coat of silicone on all the pieces. They tend to inherently tend to leak if not done right.

Is there a difference in bolt pattern between these pans ?
