Does anyone know the what the diameter(s) of the rear spindle should be in the bearing areas?
I just pulled the bearing assemblies out and one of the spindles pulled out by hand. The outer bearing slide off the spindle shaft (looks like a few thou' clearance)
I know it's unlikely the bearing is over but just want to verify the spindle is undersize before looking for a replacement.
On my 78 both sides also just pulled out. I was told back in the day it was a common practice to have spindles machined for a slip fit on brg. like the front brgs, for ease of acsess and service to brgs. Before pulling rears apart had no play in spindles, once apart races and brgs. had no sign of adnormal wear. I would also like to know oe dia. Check my thread for some interesting replys. Good luck!
For future reference
bearings are 1.3750 & 1.1875
So if GM used a Standard CL-V interference fit (.0015-.0023) the shaft should be 1.3765 to 1.3773 and then 1.1890 to 1.1898

Just got numbers from a very reliable source of 1.376 and 1.188 for the spindles so GM must have gone a little light on the interference.
