Default 68 convertible front bow weatherstrip

Hi,

I spent lots of time restoring a used convertible top frame for my 68 hardtop only car. Just got back from adjusting the side windows and make sured everything was aligned properly.

ONLY question right now is when I look at the front bow weatherstrip that was in my CA kit. The ends seems to be much shorter than the old WS...see picture below:

The olw WS was attached with the sheet metal screw that secures the front top WS section, but this new one seems to be of a different design. After looking around at the parts warehouses it seems I have the correct part...but how is the ends supposed to attach to the top bow?

Thanks for all help.

Martin

68 had some wierd stuff. Many of the parts are different than 69 up, and even later 68.

68 had some different w/s for sure, but the later styles will fit. I think that is what you are dealing with. You will need the rest of the 69 up type w/s. The hard top also had a w/s that was similar to that.

You just need to start on one end and pull it across. The weatherstrip will pull over some when you install it.

I don't carry the CA brand weatherstrips but I have installed the CRC brand without issue. The metal you are seeing is just missing the rubber.

Here is a picture of one installed from a very early 68.

Sure do, but it looks just like what you have.

I think you should screw it down on one side and work you way across... it will stretch out and you'll be fine.

Best picture I have right now is this one.

Thanks all. I will proceed with the installation. I guess GM made some change in this weatherstrip and changed the way it was secured to the front bow as compared with the original.

But it's very clear in Al Knochs installation video as well.

Thanks again.
