['82]Can headlight vac system leak effect engine running
My mechanics want to replace the cannister for my headlight vac system to improve the way my engine is running (along with the usual sensors) I have not had a problem with the headlight operation. Can the headlight vac system effect the engine vac system? If not, and they still suspect a vacuum problem, what is the most likely place to look? (BTW, the car was pouring raw fuel right into the cylinders, they are having me get the O2 and Coolant sensor for them.) Thanks!

Real easy to trouble shoot, plug the main vac hose to you headlight canister, if your idle improves then replace the canister, if it doesn't then look for other leakes. any vacuum leak can effect your idle.

I had the same problem, car idled very high.Everyone suspected a vacuumleak, but today I went to Twinnie so he could have a look at it,and it turned out to be the coolant sensor.Replaced it with one Twinnie had around, and problem is solved. :D
In my car,the connector to the sensor was bad,so the pins were rusted, causing a bad connection.
If you can't find a vacuumleak, try the sensors first!
Don't let a shop replace the sensors because there are idle problems or the ECM is spitting out Codes. Most of the times the tripped codes are caused by a problem somewhere else. Just replaceing sensors as you go along can get costly very very fast!
As Pete found out today, what seemed to be a triggered code for MAP & TPS turned out to be the CTS!

Well, guys, I threw some $$$ at the problem and I drove the car today for the first time in two years! O2, CTS, and Oil Pressure sensors (guage was reading bad, so I know that one was bad). They have the cannister bypassed right now, till I can find one, they swear it is leaking bad. I really trust these guys, they always do me right. They did a TON of really nasty work and only charged me $725. And they back up their work! It is going back in when my brake kit and Bilsteins arrive. Granted, I sometimes throw an extra part at them, just to be sure. I forgot how different my C3 is from my C4...and I still like both of 'em! Anyway, still lots of work to do, but I can actually pull it out of the garage now to do it! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
