Default Front Springs Swap

Hello,

Has anyone swaped C3 (mine is 1971) front springs with any of the conventional springs that are available today from another car? As you all know, it's not easy for me to get new corvette springs (not available in Kuwait) and too heavy to ship over! Anyone has experice with regards to what type of car donor (1980s and later) would have springs that would fit the C3. I tried 1980s chevy caprice springs, but they are 3mm wider. They do fit in the slot, but they rub too much on the A-arm wall.

Thanks
Fahad

Just checked the cross referance that rockauto has and the springs are showing to only fit 63-82 Corvettes. That is with OR without AC. So no direct cross from one to another.

Check with Moog, TRW, etc... and get the specs. You might be able to find one that has a lowwer or higher rate but fits.

I understand that Moog-5762 are the one for C3 Corvettes, if there is a supplier here in Kuwait with that much variety of Moog product, then I wouldn't have ended up here!!!

I was actually checking if anyone have used springs from a Mercedes, Ford... etc?

I doubt it. Most, as you have already seen, are either a little wider or narrow. Then the spring rate is a whole other ball of wax. That and in the US you can get springs in differant rates very easy so little to no need to try and get some from another car line.

When we told you to check the makers they will have the height, width, and spring rate. Get the factory spec's and then compare to the springs you can get your hands on.

I used this spring, about $50 from Summitt. It was shorter then the old one. That made installation easy and dropped the front about 1".
Product ID: MOOG-5758
Manufacturer: MOOG
Front Coil Spring
Coil Spring Dimensions:
Install Height 10.00,Load 1400, Spring Rate 474, Free Height 12.94

Look at Moog 5762, you can google both numbers and Moog should come up and their website shows both spring for Corvette.
