Is the oil pan a specific shape for that year , looking at GM crate engine and just wondering if the pan will need to be changed to original. I think it might need to be changed to clear steering . Has anyone dealt with this before
I have a GM 350 HO Deluxe crate in my '80. The oil pan that came with it fits perfectly.
How do you like your motor , some guys have suggested your better off to get your own motor rebuilt . I am just on the fence on either rebuild or crate .

I really like the HO. I've had it for more than 10 years without a problem or even a drop of oil. It needs to be tuned and it needs to breath. I tuned the dist. to come in early with lighters springs and had to set the vacuum secondary to open much earlier, and changed the accelerator pump to spray more and longer with bigger squirters and a more agressive accelerator pump cam. I have full length headers, mandrel bent true dual exhaust and high-flow mufflers so the exhaust end breaths as well as the intake and heads (which flow pretty well). My HO is an over-achiever...it puts out more than the 330 hp GM advertises. The ZZ4 and ZZ383 have more hp and torque, but the HO is a great engine for the money.
