Will Not Start
I Parked My 82 Crossfire In The Garage One Afternoon And later On Went To Leave In It And Would Not Start, This has Happened One Other Time Just A Few Months Earlier And After Checking , Testing EVERYTHING I Could Think Of, Oddly Enough It Just Started A Week Later. I Had Pulled The Starter\Solenoid, Had It As Well As The Alt. Bench Tested Twice This For The Second Time A Few Days Ago, All Is Well. Replaced Ignition Switch, And Replaced A "Blower Motor Resistor",Had No Heater Blower, And Also Not Being Able To Find A Neutral Safety Switch Replacement, Pulled The Orig., Disassembled Cleaned And Reassembled And Put Back In.Bought A New Yellow Top Battery, It Was Due, Still Nothing, No Click No Sound What So Ever. I Do Have Lights, Horn, Engine Chk. Light, Oil And Brake Light But No Other Sound Or Activity At All. The 6 Pin Plug That goes To The Starter on The Passenger Side has All been Sorted Out, Fuseable Links Have All Been Replaced And Are Sorted Out And Intact. The Only Thing That I Am Uncertain About Is There Is A Plunger Type Thing Mounted In The Passenger Side Quarter Panel, There Is A Small Gauge Yellow Wire And A White Wire Coming Off Of It, One Kid Of Disapears Off Into the Firewall The Other Was Just Stuck Up In This " Blower Motor Resistor "That I Replaced.I Did Not See This When I Plugged This Up So Do Not Know Where It Came From, It Is Not Factory I Am Certain. But The Wires Plugging Into It Are Of The Same Nature As The Wires From This 6 Pin Plug To The Starter. All Of These Kinda Are Wrapped With A Black Wrap And Just Kinda Tie Into A harness That Is Covered By A Black ABS Type Plastic Cover Mounted To The Firewall Going Back To The Fusebox I Am Guessing.I Have Heard So Many Story's Of The Security Systems In These Cars Being Really Flakey And A Problem, Could There Be A Problem With The Theft deterrent Starter Interrupt Relay ?, Electrical Is A Weak Point With Me , So I Am Learning As I Go, But I Have Exhausted All My Resources And Do Not have A Clue Of What It Could Be. I Never Found Out The Cure The Last Time It Happened , Was Going To Try To Hot Wire It, Saw This Plunger Thing, Pushed It A Few Times And Tried Turning It Over And It Started !, Did Not Work This Time. We Bought This Car 4yrs. Ago And Outside Of This It Has Been A Stellar Car, It Is All factory,All But For Some Wiring That I Have Seen, It Does Not Leak Or Smoke, It Has 122K Orig. Miles And has been A Real Joy, She Is Not Fast By Any Means,But Cruises Well On the Frwy., Gets OK gas Mileage, Just A Nice Driver And VERY Clean. It Is Automatic With A 700R4 Trans. There Was No Warning Like Chugging, Backfiring,Missing, The Timing Is Correct.I Keep this Car Well Sorted,I Understand that The Crossfire Was Not Chevy's Brightest Idea, But we Love This car And Would Love To see It back On the Road So Any Input Would Be Greatly Accepted.
