Are you experiencing severe wheel hop when this occurs. I can't see breaking the spindles with the amount of torque and horsepower you have. Once maybe, but not more than that. I would think that you would break a u joint or yoke before you do that. What is the condition of the bushings in the trailing arms? Something has to be out of line in order to cause that much stress to break the spindles.
Also, if you are just running around without too much freeway driving, I would look for a 4.11 rear gearing. That would give you a good amount of range to have fun with the setup that you have while still having a fair rpm when doing 55 mph.
Rebuilt both sides at the same time new bearings bushing spindles e brake parts and an alignment thats why I was considering ordering a whole new trailing arm set.
I drive highways often. I noticed mid america has 2 new ones 3.55 and 3.70 whats your input on those?
You have an odd problem going on here. As said above You must have a weak imported Spindles and or Wheel Hop or both going on. Toms Diffrentials in Idaho and Van Steel among others can provide Spindles that are Stronger than Stock. The 81 Dana 44 has a bad breakage reputation wich I don't agree with. However the Auto Trans Cars used Spicer 1330 U-joints wich are the weak link. If You havn't broke one of these yet and Your breaking Spindles its just wrong.
As far as Rear end Gears I would prefer to change out the Trans for a 4 speed Auto. Lower 1st Gear dose the same as lowering the rear gear ratio and a overdrive for the Highway. Best of both worlds. Your 81 was the last Corvette ever made with a 3 speed Auto for a reason.
