Anyone ever rebuild a master cylinder?? I was going to buy new but decsided to try to keep original. Just sent the brake booster out for rebuild and thought I might tackle ms....Thanks in advance!
The key is to make sure there is nothing in the bore after it is honed. What will appear as a dark spot is in fact a rust pit or soft metal... they must all be gone before re-assembly.
Over time condensation gets in the cylinder bore and it will rust or pit. Rust cutting the seal is usually what causes failure.
Cylinder hones are cheap to buy and when you use them make sure to put some cutting oil in the bore.
There are different stone grits you can get as well...
I had mine (the original one) stainless steel sleeved before I rebuilt it. This way you know you got a long lasting rebuild and a m/c that you should never have to replace.
