I know this question has been ask a million times before but I have not been paying attention. But now that I have one I need suggestions.
2 places I am looking at were either under the radio in the center console, but it seems crowded and may not fit.
The other is on the back of the passenger dash panel, just behind the glove box. But I am worried of how to attach it properly.
Any ideas will be helpful.
Thank you, Brian
Had a 6A behind the dash and it fried. No airflow on the box.
Put the new 6A box(that I just sold) the same place I now have a Digital 6 box on the front radiator valance.
I have my MSD- 6AL box mounted on the back side of the front fender skirt or slash shield. Remove the front fender side louver to get to it. Has worked good for me and is out of the way.
Here's one location that does not seem to pop up. I mounted mine to the metal tube ahead of the radiator between the two head lights. On a 73 there is a metal pad that worked great. I don't drive it in the rain so water is not a problem, and plenty of cool air. I can run the wires from the dist. on one side fender and the coil wires on the other, thereby no cross talk. Picked up +12 and gnd from the alternator. In 1.5 years no trouble.
If you use the space behind the passenger dash panel you can mount it upside down and fahiion a bracket to the metal frame for the dash top. Trouble is no air flow. Also, that close to the radio - goodbye reception. Seems another place is on the fender wall by the squirter.
Behind the passenger side inner fender. Just ran some screws throught the fender into a aluminum plate then attached the MSD to the plate using four rubber standoffs.
Okay I had not thought of the air flow.
I drive in the rain often so will these locations still work. I dont think the bopx is water proof.
Drove my '69 through a few good rains and never had a problem with the 6A box mounted in front of the radiator.
The Digital 6 I have now is completely waterproof.
MSD tech told me the 6A is ok with water unless it's mounted upside down or sideways.there's actually a drain hole in the unit.He said airflow is the most important thing for these boxes.
I do not have a heater in my car so I have an aluminum plate over the hole in the firewall and mount my MSD, coil, starter solenoid and a bank of relays and fuses to this plate. MSD boxes do make noise so it might become annoying.
MSD recommends it be put in the coolest location with lots of airflow and far from the radio. Thus, the best place is in front of your radiator on the lower valance. Youll need to extend the MSD box wires though, and you should still install an MSD noise suppressor in series with the MSD box. Water will not harm the box or the operation, and mine runs as cool as can be.
This was discussed a few weeks ago on a thread that I had started. After considering several good sugestions, I mounted mine behind the right wheel in the area that is behind the side grill. The engine compartment looks cleaner and heat is no longer a concern for me (since the WeasleVette is a big block).
Weasle
