Default Question about a '77 L82 Valve Covers

Last evening we had our first cruise-in of the season. There was a '77 original L82 with 52K on it. I know the owner very well and he bought the car new in June of 77. This was the first time he has driven it in 12 years. He had always started every 3 or months but it just sat in an unheated garage. This past winter he had to replace the calipers to make it roadworthy. The thing that caught my eye was....His valve pan covers are cast aluminum, slotted, painted black with a rectangle in the middle which has the outline of the Chev bowtie. Were these the type of covers put on L82's in 77? I thought they all had polished aluminum, finned covered with the circular crossed flags. He assured me that the covers came on the car and that they have not even been off. What is also neat is that the car still has the original exhaust including the mufflers and all the cooling system hoses are still original. It is kind of neat to look over an completely unmolested original car. I will post some pictures of it if anyone is interested.

As far as I know al 77 L-82's had the cast aluminum covers same as the LT-1, the only change is in 1978 they were painted wrinkle black with sanded tops.

Post some pice of the car !

I know what you mean about looking at an unrestored car. At the Wheels and Keels car show last weekend there was Corvette #177 of the 300 made in 1953, the first year of production. It was unrestored. Paint cracked EVERYWHERE; seats torn in some places; carpet had faded in some areas. The owner was NOT going to restore it. The car is used as evidence today to determine what the original factory models looked like as they came off the assembly line.
