The description says this pressure plate fits Chevrolet 153-tooth flywheel or Chevrolet 168-tooth flywheel with dual mounting pattern. My technical specifications manual says my 79 L82 has a 168 tooth flywheel. Does anyone know if that flywheel is dual mounting pattern or if not if it can be drilled and tapped for the second mounting pattern?
I'm not too up on this kind of stuff, but I think the 11 inch clutch is what is in the car from the factory but the 10.5 inch clutch will fit if the flywheel is dual mounting pattern or can be drilled to accept the smaller pressure plate. The reason I want the 350 lb-ft clutch is in its description:
"Softest pedal effort of all our clutches. You can easily push it in with your hand ... excellent for couples driving!".
I'm really tired of the factory he-man clutch and want something considerably softer to disengage.
I'd be surprised if your 79 still had a factory clutch in it. See if someone else responds but if you have a factory flywheel I think it would have been set up for one diameter disk only.

I think that may be the case, but perhaps the factory flywheel can be drilled and tapped to accept the 10.5 inch disk. My husband says it may be that the area where the original bolt holes go through is thicker than the rest of the flywheel in which case it will not be possible to drill and tap the other pattern. However, if it is the same thickness throughout it should be possible to do so. I'm hoping someone will chime in who knows.

I have receipts from the previous owner. The car has 60,000 miles on it (I'm sure given its pristine condition). The motor was rebuilt and a new clutch put in in '94 at which time the (presumably factory) flywheel was resurfaced. No brand of clutch was specified so I'm guessing it was likely a GM clutch. It appears the car was driven very little since '94.

I wouldn't be making assumptions like that especially on any C3 with under 100,000 miles on it: My 78 L-82 4 speed has 66,000 miles on it and has the OEM factory clutch. My friend's 78 L-82 4 speed has 100,000 miles on his engine and also has the OEM factory clutch! The clutch will last a long time if not abused!
