Default 69 bulk harness plug behind fuse panel?

My headlights are inttermittent and i've traced the problem to a loose connection where the wires fom the dimmer switch on the floor go behind the fuse panel.
I need to pull this loose so i can work on it.
Doesnt the wiring harness going through the fire wall plug into the backside of the fuse panel assembly?
I cant get them to separate.
Trick?

Thanks, charles rahm

the engine side of the harness has two parts. loosen the center screw and one part will slide to the side and allow the other to pull straight off. clean all the dirt off the harness with soap and water and an air hose, and you'll see the parts.

Default Excellent!

Thank you, Jnb5101,
Mine was held on by a 3/8 hex head screw and it came right off.

Default What is on the plug male tabs?

The engine side of the plug, the male connector tabs are covered with a substance like pine tar. No wonder i had something inttermittant.

the pine tar stuff is an electrical grease that prevents the contacts from corroding. when you reassemble, use some silicone grease on the contacts.

Default Thanks

Yes, thats what i did. I dissolved most of the hardened pine tar crap with lacquer thinner and cleaned up the tabs real well.
I dabbed on a bunch dielectric grease for new protection.
