ok after a year I finally have some time to work on the mistress. When I try to start it, the crank moves slow and just sputters like an old bi-plane. I have a new fuel pump, coil, and starter, battery, along with a new cap and rotor. The engine is a fresh built 496 big boy with a 750 holley carb, that ran last when it was at the dyno. It is defanatly getting fuel. It turns over as soon as I turn the key but it just doesnt seem like it gets enough momentum to fully run. I did put new gas in and have replaced all the rubber hoses. Im thinking it is something simple, perhaps just need to add some starting fluid but I thought i would ask the experts before I did something to blow up the engine.
I did but I put everything back. At the 0 timing mark it is at the #1 position. Could be the battery but I just put in a brand new one today. If it was anything with that I was thinking the battery cables. They are def the originals.
Remember, the engine turns over twice for every distributor rotation. Be sure that your engine is on the compression stroke when you set the distributor to #1 cylinder. Also check that your wires are routed properly. If all is OK, try turning the distributor slightly while you are starting it.

Sweet thanks. I thought I read somewhere that 0 mark on the balancer = set the distributor to #1. Good to kno there are peeps that know much more than me on here.
