Actually its not that difficult. You can by a kit (I think its around $12.00) that contains the ram seal. Simply remove the ram from the car and remove the snap ring on the end and pull the leather wiper and seal out and replace it with a new one.

I did it to my 78 a few months ago and it solved the leak.

Here are the posts that helped me:

Dan is right on this. I haven't seen the repair cylinder repair as cheap as $12, but Corvette Central sales them for $17.95. How's the weather in San Diego? My son lives in an area called Kensington & always calls to tell how the weather is in San Diego when it's snowing here.

You can try a new seal kit and rebuild the cylinder or buy a replacement one. The valve is probably leaking as well so you could buy the complete kit.
Power steering parts

Or you could use this as a reason to upgrade to Rack & Pinion or a Borgenson box and eliminate the mess altogether.

While you're at it just pull the body and do a frame off, that's what happened to me. No kidding, the power steering control valve was leaking and it got WAY outta hand.. I'd say don't let your repair get out of hand but it is fun. Happy new year!
