Default Flywheel Question

All the teeth are there but on about 5 of the corners are broken off. Is this okay? Or do I need to replace it?

You can get a new ring gear for $25. Just replace it.

Make sure you find out what is causing the five broken teeth. Check the starter. May have to shim it to get it within specs.

Does it work?
I mean, is it in the car? Does the starter grind?
Like all repairs, it is a matter of compermises.
If it's in the car and works ok, is it worthwhile to r&r it?
If you're doing a new clutch, it may be worthwhile to repair it since you'll be removing the flywheel to resurface it anyway.

As others have mentioned, try to determine the cause and you can simply replace the ring gear on the flywheel.

I would also add however that it's worth examining the flywheel surface for heat checking. Minor checking can be addressed by resurfacing the flywheel, but at some point it may be more cost effective to just replace it. How may miles are on this flywheel?

Good luck... GUSTO

I just picked up a new flywheel at the parts store for $68, it made more sense to replace it than to get resurfaced.

78,000 miles on it. It worked fine, but since I'm replacing the clutch I took it off to get resurfaced and saw a couple corners are rounded.
