Many of you have been following my posts on the '71 LS6 one owner vert. that is 3 miles from me and know I am trying to get the owner to let me restore it . After a lot of "brain storming" , a few whiskeys , and several hours of discussion , the owner wants to know what the "real world" value is for this vette in it's current condition . I won't get specific here , but the car IS a REAL LS6 , one owner , 60,233 original miles , has all correct components , some documention (no tank sticker) , and has never been hit hard (has all original panels) . Frame is solid , repainted once (989) , both tops , auto , original 420 interior (shows wear, but is very nice), paint should clean up nice , minor brake and fluid service needed to make driveable . I know you need to have more info , but a range of "ballpark" figures would be helpful . Thanks , Geo
Re: '71 LS6 conv. "what's it worth " question (redvetracr)
Was it in the same general condition ? I saw where "Corvette Lady" had one for sale for $45,000.00 and I've talked to fellow Forum member Jim Wallace who has a restored high points LS6 that he values @ 70K . THIS car is a long way from "restored" ! Please keep the info coming , Geo
Re: '71 LS6 conv. "what's it worth " question (geopar)
If all the correct pieces are present, frame is solid, body does not need any major work, and there is no doubt it is a LS6. Well, i personally wouldn't hesitate to pay 25,000 in it's present condition.
Re: '71 LS6 conv. "what's it worth " question (WeasleVette454)
Geo - I get really confused about the LS-6 vettes. I used to think they were a tremendous collector car bargain at +-$50k, because they only made 188 and they are a high performance vehicle. I compared them to the price/performance/rarity of 68/69 L-88s. Then it slowly dawned on me that one of the reasons for the "bargain" prices was the difficulty in authenticating the cars as original and the relative ease in building a fake.
So.... if you have one that you can authenticate as real, to me that would argue for a higher value, but I can't put a number on it. Could be as high as $40 or $50k because another $10k should put it in very nice shape. There are far too many of these cars around to be real! 188 made 32 years ago. If you check Hemmings and Pro Team, at times you can find a dozen for sale!! MJ
Re: '71 LS6 conv. "what's it worth " question (MNJack)
Let me redirect the question : People are paying upper end #'s for L89's , L71's ,L72's , L78's , BB a/c cars , etc., but I haven't seen much selling of LS6 or L88's (red vert. on e bay for example ---even though I the owners will take 100K for it ---it still hasn't sold ) . So what will this original LS6 really bring in todays market ???? Would it be %80 of appraised value ? Less/more ?? Who's buying these cars ? If there is no market , then how are these valuations justified ? Will this vette end up as one of those "I'll sell it when the it's value goes up" , and end up just wasting away for years ? There is another '69 L88 vert. on e bay (Kruse auction) right now . The #'s seem suspect to me , but , it will be interesting to see where this one goes . Geo
