well...on the way home tonight we stopped to get a bite to eat and the passenger side window would not budge...
when i bought the car he told me that the drivers side motor had been replaced but not the passenger side...
the drivers side window goes up and down so fast that it would scare ya but the passenger side mopes along slowly...
anyways...when i came out of the restaurant the window went up fine...
im guessing that the motor is dying now and its giving me some advance warning....
what do ya'll think?
time for a new one?
is it a huge PITA or what?
thanx..........................signguy
Im not sure about your problem, but if you do end up having to replace the motor, its not too hard. Ive been messing with both of mine for awhile now and taking them in and out shouldnt be that hard...re-alligning the glass though---there's your pita!
Same thing with my '80. The drivers side was replaced and is FAST.. The passenger side takes it's time. I've thought about replacing it BUT not until it dies. It's not changing the motor that bothers me.. Having to align that window is just :smash: :smash: :smash:
Some advice I can give you is to clean and regrease your window tracks! I had my door panels off and sprayed some 409 HD degreaser (any kind should work) let it work in and then sprayed out the tracks etc from the top. I dried it real good (air gun etc.) and coated them heavy with white grease. Ran it up and down and "more grease"! Man they fly up and down now! Just a Tip!...MAX
I had the EXACT same problem on the drivers window of my '69. I removed the door panel, then the access panel at the bottom of the door and cleaned the contacts that go right to the motor. They were a bit scungy looking. I sanded them with very fine sandpaper doing both the wires and the motor contacts. I then took a little WD40, wiped it on both sets of contacts and not only does the motor work both ways....it's faster than it was. And, it's the original motor. You might try this before having anything replaced.
Had the same problem on the drivers side. Intermittent operation. Before taking the door apart I checked the power switch. Found dirty and burnt contacts. Emery cloth and a little super glue to hold the circuit board in the casing and it works great. Before you take the switch apart check for 12v. on the switch posts while operating the switch.
weirdest thing...i noticed lately that they both work intermittently when the engine is not running but almost never when the engine IS running...hhhmmm
the saga continues.....
I had the same problem with my drivers side, only problem was it was stuck up and wouldn't go down. Thank god for the Ttops. I went ahead and ordered a new (rebuilt) motor, pulled the door panel off and checked the voltage at the connector and it was fine. Pluged it back up and it started working fine. Cleaned the contacts and has been working fine ever since. Moral of the story is clean the contacts before you order your new electric motor, you may not need it.

cool...thats what i will do...i called a place that i have gotten window motors before for the camaro and they said the motors are $65...not bad....
and ive never had any probs with his motors either...
ive been making a list of things to do in the console related area...so while im in there i will clean and check the switches and see how that goes...
if i DO need a motor i will condense this project with some other door related stuff like tightening my mirror (same door) etc....
so...it may not be right away that i get to this but i will let you all know how it turns out....
thanx a lot guys...
I had the same problem and replaced my SWITCH yesterday. Works great now. I hooked up the left door swich to the right door switch first, and the window then worked, so I knew it was the switch. It was easier to do and I never had to take off the door panel. Good luck.
Try removing the door panel and cleaning the contacts on the motor and the wire connectors. I had the same problem with my driver's window and it flies now.

check the contacts...you have more power flowing through your car when engine is running....also check your battery connections (contacts, ground etc.) ...maybe its not delivering as much power to the rest of your car as when the alternator is running and supplying the car ....also the contacts....clean em...when the car is running you got more constant juice than just the ol' battery.
