Default When to do my exhaust

I am in the midle of my motor rebuild. The car had the factory rams head mainfolds. In the end, I want to end up with Headers..

Do you recommend I get the car back together with the original mainfolds, get it running semi-well, drive it to the shop and let them install the headers and exhaust?

Or---

Do I cut my current exhaust, put my new motor in, hook up my headers and tow the car to the shop for the exhaust. Tow it back home and tune it..?

My fear is that I wont get it running right without the exhaust. Or I wont even try and get it running, have the exhaust put on, and then get it running.

Suggestions??

Put the headers on and fire it up. You can buy some cheap flexible tubing and just clamp it on to the reducers and the exhaust to get it running and drive it to the shop. Once there just cut it off or take it off. It cost me about 20 bucks for the flexible tubing. You can actually drive it around like this for a little just to get it running good.

One option is to install the headers and bolt on a pair of header mufflers temporarily. I have a set to fit 3 inch collectors. You can borrow them if you want. I'm about 20 miles from Easton.

Ahhh. that thought never crossed my mind! Awesome. Thanks for the offer. I'll shoot you a private message when I am ready to roll. Dont expect it for a few months though. Most likely early spring!!

Thanks!

If you are breaking in a new cam, you may want to do that first using the stock manifolds and then switching to headers.

Most header companies say that breaking in a cam with new headers will void the warranty as it will ruin any coating or finish on them.
Just my .02.

I thought that was just for new engines & ceramic coated headers.

If timing is off, manifolds or headers will INSTANTLY overheat ... scorching paint & ceramic or blueing chrome & stainless ... timing error very common snafu w/ fresh build!
