Default headers

Hey Guys,

I am looking to get a few more horses from my 1978, 350 engine. I was looking at buying headers. Just a few questions: Will I get the extra horses? Will I get that nice deep sound from them? How much should it cost to get them put on (I think that job is more then I can handle)? I was not looking to spend a lot of $, saw a set of Hooker's for 300-400$, any suggestions?

Thanks

I got the one's from summit , g-9003, they were like $114.00 they are flat black not chromed or anything. I am going to run 2.5 inch exhaust to the mufflers. Don't have a clue on any power gains or sound changes but it will help the engine breathe better so should sound a lot nicer too! 72 SB

You really cant just buy headers for a 78 and expect much return for your money.

Are you thinking shortie headers with your regular 2-1-2 system with cat and regular mufflers? dont waste your money.

If you are thinking true dual exhaust, eliminating the cat, and good mufflers then you can stick with your present exhaust manifold or get shortie headers too but you are going over $300. I bought true dual exhaust for my 78, eliminating the cat, and buying Magnaflow mufflers for around $300 and kept my present exhaust manifold. I didnt think spending more money on shortie headers would add that much more HP.

Are you thinking long tube headers? then you need a new exhaust system. Long tube just doesnt bolt up to an original exhaust. More $$.

You need to provide more info on what you have.

Good luck.

The conventional wisdom is that a nice, free-flowing 2 1/2" dual exhaust with some free-flowing mufflers using the stock exhaust manifolds will do you a lot more good than a set of headers using the stock exhaust.

Thanks guys, I will look into keeping the current manifolds, I just bought some chrome covers for them (ecklerscorvette.com) because they look like ****. I would like to try the true duals/magnaflow exaust. The problem is the cat. I live in illinois, and the emmissions might be a problem.
Glad I talked to u guys before spending the $
Thanks
