Default Carb sizing question???

On the home run on getting my 427BB fired up! ( just waiting on $500 worth of pulleys to arrive !!)
I have a rather old 800cfm Holley D/P. Needs a kit...
Have been thinking of just buying a new one.
Holley tech recommend at least a 950 cfm D/P..... I was thinking 850cfm, opinions ??
427cu, brodix race rite rect heads, solid 250@50 cam, 10.8 comp, LS6 manifold ( sadly, for hood clearance ) sould run to 7000 rpm

Cheers

Since you're saddled with that low-slung intake, I think that 800cfm Holley will work fine once rebuilt.

For some silly reason, a Holley 950 is actually smaller than an 850.
The 850 & 950 both use the same base plate with a 1.75" bore size.
But the venturis on a 950 are 1.375", while they are 1.5625" on an 850.
True flow for the 950 is about 830 from what I have seen.

Since you already own it, rebuild the 850cfm double pumper. You'll love it. I have one on my '67 Chevy II bracket car running a 0.30 over 454 (Weind single plane intake and iron square port heads).

FWIW, I've successfully run a 1050 progressive Dom (w/C454 180* intake) on a hot street 427, and will most likely end up with ~1000 Pro Systems carb and Holley Strip Dominator intake on the solid roller, rect port 427 for which I've been collecting parts these long months (still raising funds), and the latter one may be a mite tamer than yours. So, are you dead set against an L88 hood?

Nope I LOVE the L88 hoods, just a budget thing at the moment, by the time i get them shipped to here ( New Zealand) and local tax ect...
Then the debate is if i should put funds for a L88 hood towards a kinsler cross ram injection, that would be my fist choice option.
