Default 68 wiper motor / washer motor confusion

Somehow I just don't get it or I am missing a part. The washer mechanism mounts to the wiper motor housing. But I do not see how they work together. There does not seem to be a connection between the wiper motor and the washer mechanism. What spins the plastic cam on the washer mechanism? If anyone has some insight that would get me on the right path to understanding this I would appreciate it.

You need to line up this hole

With this one

Insert a more suitable sized pin than the one I have here.

Then you just bolt the cover to the motor and pull the pin out.

OH, NO! This is probably great advice and if it is I have a problem. I just bought the washer from a forum member. It does not have the white plastic part on the back side. It just has the shaft with the ring around the top for the clip. No wonder I couldn't figure it out. I am sure it is a honest mistake so I will contact him immediately.

Those pieces are available from most of the suppliers, a complete rebuild kit, is only about $13.00.

I got this info right off this forum a few years ago so I hope it's correct.

I'm sure Sarge is correct about being able to get repo parts but if you need anything from my spare let me know exactly what you need and where to send'em.

Looks like the rebuild kits your talking about are for the pump. I need the cam and ideally the circlip.

DZRick,

I really appreciate the help. If you have the 4 lobe cam in your picture and the clip that holds it that would be great. I assume that is all that is there. Let me know what you want for it and I can see if the guy I bought it from will take care of it. He seems to be a good guy, just didn't know it was missing.

You may be able to get this from a core in a junk yard on an older passenger car too!

That's great! Thank you very much! Hopefully somehow I can repay you when I'm selling something. If there is anything specific you need let me know. I don't have much but I do have some. Thanks again.

My pleasure, happy to help both you and the gent that sold you your pump.
He is a good guy.
He got a hold of me as soon as he realized there were parts missing from what he sold you asking if I had spare parts so he could make things right.

We '68 owners have to stick together!

Rick, does this mean I'm the odd man out? I don't have a 68 ;(

AWilson.. one thing you might do is check the make sure the pump runs. I'm sure you have but just a reminder... I'd hate to see you do this work and it not run.

Are you kidding Ernie, if it weren't for you all us '68 owners might as well remove our wiper motors to drop the dead weight.

As far as I'm concerned you are an honorary member of the '68 club!

He does seem to be a good guy. It was just an honest mistake. Although at the time the mistake was made I didn't know if he was a good guy so I had a little concern. But not much money at risk either way. There are a lot bigger things in life to worry about.

I will be doing that tomorrow. I assume I just apply + and - to the female pin leads on the washer? Does the pump have to be full or at least wet or can I just bench test? I don't want to be able to say it DID work!

Default Update

Got the extra parts needed. Tested the wiper motor using the Wilcox video and it works. After much clean up and lubrication I tested the washer mechanism and it seems to work fine! New plastic cap makes it all look nice and we are done! Thanks to everyone's help.

Glad it all worked out for you Alan. There's a GREAT bunch of '68 owners here on the site. And YES we do need to stick together.

Yeah all of us with 68's seem to need some help with one thing or another on here at some stage. Good to see you managed to get it sorted. Me, I'll be going over these threads this weekend comparing the pics and descriptions to my 68 washer that is permanently on when the motor is running (and it ain't the switch).
