th400 kickdown switch adjustment

Just finished adjust gas pedal rod to get a full pedal. I assume I need to adjust the kickdown switch. I am aware that it is self-adjusting. I have push the switch up until it "clicked."

Do I need to take the car out on the street and to WOT to adjust the kickdown? Or can I simply press the accelerator to the floor to set switch? If I can just press the accelerator, does the car need to be on and running?

Car does not need to be running to self adjust. Key in "run" position to check for electricity flow through the switch at WOT.
