A bit off topic but does anyone know what software package the major lubrication chains/car dealers use to print those stick-um labels for the inside of the windshield? They project three months and 3,000 miles or 5,000 km into the future. It must be a canned, commercial package either running from a vehicle history at a particular shop or a simple arithmetic program based on input on an "unknown" vehicle given the mileage stated on the day of lubrication. Or both. I would really appreciate your help on this. I need info on this for work. And if you are generous, what printers perform this function and how are they linked to a typical work-order produced on WIN98? Many thanks!

Paul:
What software/accounting package does your dealership use? The major ones in the US are ADP, CARS, EDS, Reynolds & Reynolds. The last dealer I work for used ADP and it was built into there system. We ran a dot matrix printer with a roll of static cling stickers in it and when producing a work order it would give you the option to print a sticker. The computor admin could set up parameters of what would print on the sticker as far as projected date and mileage.

Pete,
I do not know their system. It is a Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership. I thought GM would be equipped to do these things but....I use a CD ink pen to scribble!! My 2001 Impala is serviced by a local Chev dealer and they scribble also. When I took this job I was amazed as to how low-tech Mr. GoodWrench can be. Mr. Lube here in Canada just prints out those little stickers *****-nilly. I will certainly pose your questions tomorrow.
