Default Anyone using a gear vendors product?

I have been saving for a 200R4(performance built) to lower the rpm's in my 79. Another alternative is a unit from gear vendors. Anyone using this setup? I really like the 200R4, due to the gear spacing and light weight, but it is so expensive for a good unit that is reliable. I am on a shoestring budget, so just wondering about other possibilities for adding an overdrive. I know that the cheapest thing would be to change my gear ratio, but that would kill what little performance I do have. Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

Sounds like your budget is an issue so you'd do better to stick with your original plan. From what I've seen, performance rebuilt TH200's or 700's are less expensive than the cost of the overdrive unit. If you figure in the value of having a freshly rebuilt tranny, as opposed to buying the overdrive AND a fresh tranny, it gets even more lopsided. In either case, you're gonna have to drive a lot of miles before your savings in fuel cost equals the cost of the switch.
