What tool is recommended for tuning the A/F ratio? I have seen several devices listed with prices ranging greatly from $200-$400. Is one of these required? Is there a lower cost way? I do not have a o2 bung so I would need to weld one with the tools I am seeing so far. I have a Edelbrock 650 new out of the box. Followed the idle instructions included with the carb but the nose test tells me it is running rich and I cant seem to get it right based on the idle tuning. Based on setting it at idle like the instructions say it floods from a hard accel from a stop but is fine when rolling then punching to WOT but definitelty still smells rich. Doing a complete tuneup this coming weekend and wanting to get the a/f and timing properly locked in. I can't seem to locate any tuners in/around Nashville, TN either (if anyone knows one I would appreciate being pointed that way) so I am going to buy the tools and learn it myself. Any advice is highly appreciated.Thanks.

pull the sight plugs. if fuel is dribbling out you know it's too rich. i have my level set a little below the plug holes. sorry, but i don't have any exp. with edelbrocks. i run holleys.
I use the FAST wideband kit and have had good luck with it. It also supports 5V output to dataloggers, if you're so inclined.
A tailpipe setup will *not* work if you have cats. Those will skew the reading. The closer to the exhaust port the better (to about 20" I believe, closer than that is too hot and you might see some issues with reversion.)
The closer you are the less likely an exhaust leak will have skew readings. Exhaust velocity is higher there. Generally the collector of a LT setup is good, or just past the curve in a stock system's downpipe.
Have you checked your ignition timing? have you checked if the floats are correctly set?
I havent checked timing yet since replacing the old carb. Its 1st on my list of to-dos this weekend. Floats are correctly set per the included documents that came with the carb. Only reason I went edlebrock is it was direct replacement to what was on it when I got the car along with a matching edelbrock performer intake. The old carb was nasty and needed a rebuild and I just bought new instead.
