Drop Base air filter with HEI Ignition??
I am wondering if there are any drop base air filters out there that will clear a GM HEI Ignition.... I just checked the Jegs and Summit website and the only "OFFSET" air filter (to clear HEI) doesn't come in the drop base design.
I am wondering what air filter to use with the Performer RPM style intake on my new engine...
Any input is appreciated!!

I'm using one by Moroso. I'm not exactly sure on the specs, but w/ my manifold and the drop, I have no interference, and even though I'm using a 14x3 unit, I can still clear the HEI ignition by putting the unit on at an angle and then seating it the rest of the way. :smash:

I am using a Moroso Drop base 14X3 with the GM HEI and it worked with the high rise Elderbrock intake and with my current stock intake check-out my sig. photo that is what you see

Olivier- I have an offset base now, got it from Summit pretty cheap. But I also have the L-88 hood so clearance wasn't any problem. My local speed shop loaned me a drop base that cleared the HEI just fine, but wouldn't work with my throttle linkage, it was $15. If you want me to go grab it for you just let me know. It also works with the Holley double pumper carbs with the screws on each end of the float bowls.

P.S. About the drop base - I will check about the clearance with my carb. I will probably have to remove my electric choke...

I have a K&N drop base one mine (not offset) and it works perfectly fine. its close, but no problems. :)

no problem...thought you might want to know its sold in the Summit book and its 1 1/4 inch drop base. I hear they make a 2 inch drop tho :eek: I wanna find someone who sells it!!
