Anyone have a Star Performance 496 engine or any experience with the low end Pro Com heads?
I checked their website. No mention of any of the manufacurers of the parts used in the build. If you are refering to Pro Comp heads they are junk.
Check Ultrastreet.com If your in the market for a quality crate engine. They do list the manufacurers of their components and have a stellar reputation. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
Pro Comp parts are very cheap Chinese junk. The head castings are "ok" at best but should be rebuilt with quality parts and machine work. When I worked for a shop we bought 5 crate engines from a company who used cheap parts like this, we had problems with 3 of them. You get what you pay for.
Right buyer beware. Pro comp makes cranks, rods, pistons, heads, rocker arms ect. The rockers are a direct knockoff of comp cams pro magnums for 1/2 the price. I have hear of the rocker arms grenading with the little roller bearings going thoughout the engine and ruining the engine. A lot of these crate engine builders cut corners wherever possible to keep the price down. Weather this is machine work quality, parts quality, external balanced vs internal balance or wider tolerance allowances none are good options. If they are using pro comp heads I would question everything.
