Default Painting T-Tops

As I'm prepping the t-tops (1979) for paint, I'm wondering if I should attempt to remove the metal trim/molding/rail (or whatever you call it) that wraps around the front and outside edge, or just sand up to it and prime/paint. At first I thought I'de leave it on. I'm concerned about chipping the new paint when re-installing as it is a tight fit. Any experiences? At a quick look, I'm not sure how to get if off without damaging the top anyway. Thanks in advance.

My advice to you would be to leave it on.Removing this trim piece is a real PITA,& as you mentioned putting it back will just damage your new paint.Make sure you clean & polish the trim before you paint the tops, that way you won't scuff your new paint finish. Then just mask it off.
