Default Holley carb rebuild?

Any advice or experiences that you guys can help me out with? Also the carb to intake gasket is shot and I need to replace it. The old one didn't look like it was sealing too good on the back side of the intake. Any recommendations on a gasket for a Holley 650 mounted to a performer intake spread bore. Thanks in advance.

If your current gasket is still in good shape I suggest you spread a bit of silicone on both sides of the gasket just like butter and re-install your carb. Just hand tighten the cab bolts and wait till the silicone sets-up "overnight" and the re-tighten the bolts and you are done no more leakes.

I can't help you with the rebuild. Too many parts for me to keep track of.

Holley book recommends a new gasket anytime the carb is removed. I don't think you need a special gasket. If you must torque, I can check the specs but I think it's 100 in lb---not foot lbs! You don't want to snap these studs :nono:

Well, if it's a squarebore Holley and your putting it on an Edlebrock Performer #2101, you'll need a plate from Edlebrock to fix the seal problem your having on the secondary side. I think the part number is #2732 (not totally sure) and costs about $7. It consist of a 1/8" plate and 2 carb to intake gaskets. What it does is help seal the area where the intake was cut to accept a quad carb (big secondaries). With your squarebore carb there isn't enough meat on the intake to make a good seal and you end up having vacuum leaks/sucking gaskets. What you saw with the carb to intake gasket is the norm when this adapter isn't used.

I am pretty sure that the carb is square bore. The secondaries are larger than the primaries and the secondaries is where I am not getting a good seal. I'll check around for the adapter plate and try it. So do you guys think that I need that thick gasket?

Steve, if you have a speed shop anywhere around they should have it... Not sure about AutoZone's, Advance, etc.. you can definately get it mail order (Summit, Jegs). My opinion you would not need the thick gasket when you use the plate.

70PurpleS7,
I assume that the adapter would act as a heat discipator also wouldn't it, and with a gasket on top and bottom of the shield that should be plenty of seal.

You have a spreadbore carb a la Quadrajet.

A squarebore carb is one like most Holleys or AFBS in which the primary and secondary venturis are the same diameter.
