I've read that our motors run best with manifold vacuum for the dist vacuum advance. My 77 L48 has the vac advance connected to a vacuum port on the drivers side front of the carb. Is this manifold vacuum, and if not where should I connect it to?
Just check if there is vacuum present on that port at idle.
If there is, its manifold vacuum. If you have to open the throttle as bit before you get vacuum, then its ported.
If it's above the carb butterflies, it's "ported".
Manifold vacuum comes from a port below the butterflies, or a nipple on the power brake fitting...which may require a new fitting with an available nipple.
