I can't say for sure, but I am guessing for parts and labor, maybe 2,000. If you or a friend have the tools, what about a buying a crate engine from GM? The Mr. Goodwrench Universal 350 is about $1500, has a warranty and about 240hp. Or, there are other engines with more horsepower if needed. Install the crate engine in your car. Save your original engine, to put back in later if you sell the car.

Basically, I think crate engines offer a great value for the money, usually about the same price as rebuilding but with less labor and down time involved. Just my opinion, which isn't worth much.

I spent $1700 with a local machine shop that does race engines and just about anything else you can bring in.the block was cleaned and painted, bored .30 over,.10 under on the crank, new pistons, balanced, melling hi-volume oil pump, edelbrock performer manifold, comp cams XE262,new timing gears, chain, new lifters, springs, heads were planed, 3 angle valve job, chrome timing cover, bead blasted the stock exhaust manifolds and re-studded them. I added a new edelbrock carb and chrome valve covers, when i got it home, so add another $500 to the price. crate motors are fine, but they are a roll of the dice, made in mexico and assembled in mexico. i've heard horror stories about these engines, but what the heck, most have a warranty. the shop that rebuilt my engine had already rebuilt a 1/2 dozen GM crate motors and that was 2 yrs ago now. the basic GM crate motor is $1298 + shipping, if you add a cam kit, you'll spend just about what I spent on my L-48. don't count the carb as part of the price, cuz i was going to need that regardless. good luck, get a long engine hoist to pluck that engine over the nose of that vette.

I agree with the other posts I can only add " Make sure your engine builder bores the cylinders and replaces the following parts with New Pistons, Cam, Valves, valve Springs, Lifters, Oil pump. Most rebuildes just hone the cylinders add new piston rings and a few engine seals and that is it and guess what you end-up with a piece of crap. Plan on spending at least $2,000 to $3,000 for a turn key job. I would go with a creat engine any day New is New. The best deal out there is the crate engine from GM the one every beats up-on on this board. Guess what that engine is a clone of the 1969 350/350 the best engine GM ever made. That would be my 1st choice. A lot of clowns on this board have a thing abought stuff been built or assembled in another country. U.S. built is not always the best a lot of crap is also built in the U.S.
