Default 82 window slop

Reinstallingmy side windows and cant get the adjustment right. I am wondering if the guidescould be worn, my budget is almost gone so i hate to spend the $90 if i dont need to. After adjusting the window to mfg instructions i just cant get the fit correct. I have replaced the weather strips but cat get the window to close completely. acts like it binds up when rolled up and the front corner will not seat at the top. I noticed if i grab the window i can move it some. So my question is ...... is the a noticeable amount of movement in the window if the guides are still good or are they worn? Or better yet anyone in the cincinnati area willing to assist me in the fit of these windows i am thinking a hammer may solve my problem.

I tried adjusting mine using the aims but never could get them right. I bought a suction cup at home depot for $5 and it helped get the glass moved better. Just read about a week ago that it might be binding on the new weather stripping and there is a lubricant for that. Does the window go all the way up if the door is open?

I had my car in the local garage for an alignment and asked about the windows and they told me that they can adjust them. You might drive by a corvette shop and ask them. My understanding is they are difficult to adjust properly unless you really know what you are doing. Might be relatively inexpensive if you already have the door panel off.

As far as the movement, I think a little movement is normal. Mine has new guts but I can still get movement when I pull on it.

Aldo, its a major pain in the ****. Do you have the instructions? You have to follow them exactly.

A bit of play is okay.

Which weather stipping did up replace, is it the soft or hard rubber? The hard will always give you problems.

I replaced all the weather stripping except for the window felts. The door strip certainly fit goofy particularly the ends at the windows, the front of the window more than the back. I have look at how tos and pic and damned if i can figure it out. I am going to remove the tracks this weekend and give a look at the rollers. Keen Corvette is close to me and has offered to allow me to look at some doors they have, hopefully i will notice my problem based on theirs.

Its not likely the tracks. Its multiple adjustments. You need to loosen off all the bolts at the top of both tracks. Extremely important are the two in the middle of the door, they are located just behind where the arm rest would be....these two control the forward/backward of the glass. You need to position the glass so its as far back as possible but still clears the body when opening and closing the door. You can then adjust the in/out and height.

I find its easiest if you take off the "T" top. Loosen all the bolts. Power the window full up....pull it into place. Tighten the two center bolts (arm rest area) first then see how tight the window is up against the pillar weather stripping....if tight push it out a bit....then tighten the two bots on the top of the front track (you will know which ones they will move when you push). Play around with it.

I'll try to scan and post the instructions.

One very important thing I learned when adjusting windows on my 81.
The BATTERY MUST BE HOT.....otherwise, your windows will not function the same way when the car is running, as opposed to when you are in the garage working, motor off and using battery power alone to power the windows.
When the motor is running , the window motors will see full power. When the motor is off, they see battery only power and it DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE, believe it or not.
When you have made your best window adjustment, try starting the motor and give the windows a try.
Ask me how I know to do this .

Doors glasses are fidgety for sure, but keep this in mind: the glasses seal against the weathershipping.

Remember, the windshield post weatherstrips have a little bit of adjustment in them to allow for fitting them against the glass.

Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for your model year? The AIM has a couple of pages of instructions and diagrams for door glass adjustment based on how them set them on the assembly line.
