Tom454, great comments. Can you provide a bit of additional clarification? Did you continue to use a stock type crossover heat activated choke on your vehicle, or disable the linkage and run no choke when using the Paragon flapper eliminator and blocking intake manifold gaskets? I agree with the nasty oil cakeing on the bottom of the intake manifolds. No pictures necessary, I've seen it myself.

I'll rethink my game plan.

Ralph.

PS: I did hear from Edelbrock late yesterday and they said the SpeedfPro L2268F pistons I am currently using will work, and give me about 10.1CR.

Sorry I wasn't clear on that... yes.. I used the facory choke spring, cover & link. No problems. The intake gaskets have to have a metal block plate. The exhaust heat will burn through a fabric gasket even if the heat riser valve is wired wide open or eliminated. Ask me how I know. Ha Ha

Does GM still make an alum. BB head?

Thank, Ralph.[/QUOTE]

I went on an Edelbrock factory tour of their Torrance, Ca facility. This was maybe 4 years ago? At one of their large CCN machines they were manufacturing BB Chevy aluminum cylinder heads. I looked at a pallet of semifinished BB heads. They all had the GM logos on them, and no Edelbrock logos. Conclusion: if you buy a GM BB aluminum head, I'd guess you're really just getting a re-labelled Edelbrock head.

How important is the heat cross-over function? In really cold intake air, the vaporizing gasoline in the carb has a cooling effect. If there's moisture in the air or in the gasoline, you can get ice to form in the carb. This is a problem with aircraft engines. When your BB warms up, your under hood temps are going to be relatively warm, regardless of the outside temp. My guess is that you don't need a cross over heat capability from your cylinder heads.

For the carb choke function, you do need this. I'd guess you can get a Holley electric choke conversion kit for your traditional Holley. And you can always use a manual choke, but this is awkward.
