Default Engine Rebuild... Help please

Yesterday I had to accept the fact that my engine it's going to die soon... Oil Pressure drops to 0 when the engine it's hot (checked with a manual manometer). when it's cold stars at 40... Changed the oil to a 20W50 because here most of the time it's 100+ add an additive for low pressure engines. Changed the filter. checked the pressure valve... and still the same thing.

Now when it's hot I hear a knock on the valve covers like a little coco spinning around in there. I guess my bearings are to wear out.

Engine L-48 1980
Intake: Holley 300-38
Carb. Holley Street avenger 770
Exhaust: True Duals 2 1/2

So the main thing here it's can you advice me on the rebuild kit (not the sizes, that I will get after putting down the engine). I want this opportunity to change the pistons for a better compression.I will look for new heads and cam.

I was thinking in this kit... But if any have a better suggestion more than welcome

For the Heads and cam I want a street comfortable driving bur more HP that the stock 190

I was looking at this:

What do you think?
It's Ok the combo?
how many hp you estimate that I will get?

Thanks for the feed Back!

If you just want to build a relatively tame street motor that setup would be fine for, say, 300-325 HP. That's about all you are gonna see with that cam. Those heads will support a LOT more camshaft, and since you're looking at all-Edelbrock stuff anyway you might want to search a little for one of their matched setups, i.e., cam, heads, intake, etc.

Also, you'll want to take a good look at your crankshaft once the motor is apart- a drop in oil pressure like you're getting could mean that your main bearing are so worn that they are starting to eat into the crankshaft. If that's the case you'll either need to have your existing crank turned down or get a good replacement. If you do wind up turning down your existing crank you will need undersize bearings.

Look at your budget, decide what kind of horsepower you want to make, and then once you've got everything apart and know exactly what you are dealing with and what it's going to take to correct all the problems you can purchase whatever is going to get you where you want to go....

Look at the Jeg's short blocks for a complete bottom end package. I'm using the high compression one to compensate for the smog era L-82 heads I have. With a decent cam it makes for a great street motor and still get respectable mileage. Very satisfied.

Thanks for the feedback. Im gonna go for the undersizes bearings at the crankshaft I hope only go to 0.020 and For the pistons I will go for oversize maybe 0.030 to gain some more ci. But only once the block and the crankshaft is at the workshop I will know the under and oversizes. for now I just want to know wich brand or kit will be the best for the rebuild I want to do this to know I little better my engine but ofcourse with help of a mechanic.

and for the cam I want to know whitch will be the best option to gain more hp but i dont want a 1500 rpm idle...

My goal its 350hp and for the budget the lowest as possible but I hope not going over 1800

Check this kit out:

http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...uctModelId=380

It's cheap because it has a lot of cheap parts. You can click on the boxes of things you want to upgrade, like brass freeze plugs instead of steel ones, flat-top pistons instead of dished, etc.

Keep it between the ditches!
