Wanting to avoid damage to headlight system should the engine be running or off when raising/lowering the headlights manually (by hand). TIA

You won't hurt anything by lifting and lowering by hand. Make sure though when lowering that you are pulling on the joint in the linkage that supports the headlight and not just forcing down on the top of the assembly. Question is, why are you doing this by hand? Do you have an issue with your vacuum system that needs attention?

Just wanted to see if there was a chance of damage when raising/lowering with the engine running.

Problem would be a better description of my headlight "issues", but am waiting to post a separate thread. Just wanted a clarification whether on the running or off would make a difference. Headlights are only used once a year at vehicle inspection time.

Thanks for your reply.

Just saw your post. I also must put headlights down manually on my 80. I have to lay on the ground under my front end and reach my hand up just next to the spring and release the headlight. It will come down, no problem. Good luck.
