Does anyone have the LSX 454 with LS7 intake?
Has anyone or do you know anyone who bought the GM LSX 454 with the LS7 intake. I was thinking of buying this engine and installing it in my C3 and was wondering how the engine performed and are they satisfied with the engine? Thanks, Gary

I think you may be placing the 454 in the wrong engine family. The last true 454 was the 7400 from the Vortec line. An LS7 is from the LSX family but parts do not interchange between the two.

No, he knows what he wants.

These are rated at 620 hp carburated. I think that is an easier install.

I looked everywhere for the same crate motor your looking for and finally gave up. MAST motorsports has some LSX based 454s but most are using LS3 heads instead of the new LSX heads. If you have one built, it will be just under $20k by the time you get all of the components. I couldnt bring myself to trust any small time builder with $20k so I changed to a different motor. If you go this route keep the forum posted as this combination can easily generate 700hp on pump gas. GM also has an LSX tall deck block, allowing for at least 502 cubic inches. In for a penny in for a pound, lol.

The 2011 Gm performance catalog has the engine, and with the LS7 intake it puts out 580 HP and 600# TQ. The catalog list it as a tall block but GM said thats a typo and its standard height.
This would fit under my 70 BB hood, I know its a lot of work but the problems with installation seem to be pretty well figured out.

Will this fit too?

Personally, I would not go with the LS7 Intake... they use the 90mm throttle body. Most of the people that I have seen with modified LS3's and LS7's are using the FAST LSXR 102mm Manifold.

My dad is considering the LSX 454 620hp for his '73. If he goes this route, that manifold will be the one that he will use.
BTW - All LSX 454s from GM are standard deck. The LSX 454R is a standard deck. I believe that the short block is the same minus the cam. Heads are obviously different. LSX454R has fully CNC'd heads with 50cc combustion chambers providing a compression of 13.1:1 and a full mechanical roller. I've only been able to find one video of the LSX454R floating around and I can say that engine is serious race engine. I would consider putting a zz572/720R in C3 and driving it on the street... Not so much, with the LSX454R and its smaller cubes..

Thanks for the info sounds like thats a better intake. I'm trying to get all the info I can to start the swap this fall. I have a 70 with a BB 454 and a 5 speed in the car now but I would like to install the LSX454.

A YES... IT WILL FIT...
Mine is a 418ci motor based on the LS3- I paid under 5k for a short block. Put AFR mongoose heads Victor JR intake and HOLLEY 780 DP carb. I can run high 10s a pump gas with a 3.36 gear and 3500 stall. I would think a 454LSX would get me to High 9s or low 10s.... added more gear and more stall... only faster!! These motors are awesome!

This will be an awesome build! Out of curiosity, what gave you the LSX bug? I think I would have a hard time giving up the sound and feel of a well built solid roller BBC.. Don't get me wrong, I love the LS series engines, but you might find that you'll miss the nostalgic feel.

Not a GMPP crate motor, and not in a C3,but gives a good idea what these bad boys can put out...Anyone have a ball park guess on the weight savings over an old school BBC?

It's pretty funny but the LS shop where I got mine dynoed is now building LSX454 N/A no power adders. They have been doing nothing but S/C and nitrous but I have seen the results in my buddies shop.
I like to think I had something to do with it when I ran my old Gen1 427ci there. They were asking how much nitrous I was using
Anyway they have just finished an LSX 454 that made 647RWHP N/A
There does come a point at which the car is no fun to drive on the street and I had a HP number that I didn't want exceed so I
could tool around town and blow the doors off pretty much everything when I want to
These guys don't fool around, they have an 8 second street driven Vette with all the accessories including air conditioning
