I've had my '76 for a bout 10 years now and it's in desparate need of a restore.
Where do most of the Canadians order parst from these days? I've dealt with Ecklers and Mid-America in the past, but I'm wondering if there is anyone better/cheaper or closer to home.
Mechanical parts are available from GM Canada, Canadian Tire, AC Delco and the like. Interior parts such as seats, door panels, etc. have to be sourced from the USA. There have been a few Canadian sources for the latter over the years but they never seem to stay in business too long. So you are into importation with those blessed FedEx/UPS brokerage fees, the exchange rate, shipping in US dollars and PST/GST imposed at the border. Pretty sad but true. So basically a part at $1.00US becomes $2.00CDN.
I'm not sure where you're located, your postal code looks like maybe Ottawa way, but I've been dealing with Beaky's Corvette Corner. He's located just east of London, just 5 minutes north of the 401. He's been in the Corvette parts business for at least 30 years and has both new and used parts. For resto stuff, he gets it from US sources, but looks for both quality and price. There's not many, if any, Vette resto manufacturers in Canada, so not many options where to get the materials from.
Beaky is working on a website, it's not up yet, but you can get him at (519) 268 3365, or fax at (519) 268 3373.
Ya I know all about the rip off known as "brokerage fees".
Don, thanks for the tip on Beakys. I'm in Gananoque, which is just east of Kingston, but I've got in-laws in London that I see fairly regularly. By the sounds of it they must be only a couple of minutes from Beakys so I'll check him out.
There used to be a place in Quebec that advertised in the Auto-Trader, anyone know if that place is still around. I'll have to look to see if I stiil have the name of the place at home.
Welcome to the Forum.
If you do order from the US, and it is a small item, then use the Post Office.
They don't have any brokerage fees.
Of course, that's if your not in too big of a hurry for the part.
I'll second Beaky's, Pretty good prices, but delivery time sucks most of the time( he builds up orders in order to get cheaper prices). This guy knows vettes though, he'll talk your ear off too if you're not careful. I've been dealing with him for around 12 years now and never had a problem with anything he has gotten me.
He is in a little town called Nilestown, about 5 minutes out of London.
