Default Just what is this engine in this Vette?

Hi, I'm looking at a 1975 Stingray L-48. Nice shape good price, but the engine isn't the original it has a stamping that just doesn't work with any of the data bases I imput the info to, so maybe someone here can help before I buy this car.

The engine number on the pad at the front of the right head reads;

121144149 then a gap and then K11 03 8E

So all together it reads 121144149 K11 03 8E

I think it's a Chev engine from 1972 but that's all and as for displacement maybe a 350 but could be truck engine for all I know.

Any help or suggested web sites that have Chev engine number checking would be great as the Vette engine number sites don't have this info.

Also you will notice that there is no suffix stamping after all this such as CHB which is what this L-48 should have.

Cheers, Roland.

Roland,
Are you sure that it ends with "8E"? Should end with two or three letters. Can you recheck that "8"?

Also, do you have the block casting number and casting date? Block # is on the rear drivers side by the bellhousing flange, casting date is on the passanger side in the same area.

Hi Tom, thanks for a serious reply. I already checked mortec.com it only lists vette numbers. The last suffix is an 8 not a B. This is why it is throwing me off as it should be at least 2 letters maybe 3 and yet it ends 8E.

All I know from the first series of numbers is that it is a Chevy engine and built in 1972 and then the VIN part of course doesn't match the car at all. The last part shows a K11 which I believe means Canadian built and in November and then 03 would be the 3rd of that month and then we are left with 8E which would give the application of the engine which I have no idea.

Could be for a rocket or something.lol

Cheers, Roland.
