Hey Guys, in leafing through past forums I see that many of you use a different shock set front to rear. I'm running an '80 with a modified small block. not going to be racing, looking for a good all around streetable combo. Thank's
I have used different shocks either of the same make or different shock manufacturers since 1983 on my C3 since I have found that the completely different designs of the C3 suspension required very different shock damping for the ultimate shock damping. Originally, I used koni oil shocks in the front with the 550 springs and KYB gas a just with the f 41 7 leaf steel spring. In 1985, I installed a 360 mono spring with the same setup but found that the KYB's were way too bouncy with the composite. I even replaced the rear KYBs under warranty in the 90s to try and eliminate the bouncy ride. In the early 2000s I switched to Bilstein heavy duties all around which were a BIG improvement in ride and handling but still felt that the HDs in the rear with an360 mono spring were too soft and switched to Bilstein Sports (30% stiffer than the HDs) and they are perfect now-ride great, handle great-with Bilstein HDs in the front. The composite spring requires much more damping than steel coils or the rear leaf spring. Hope that helps!
When I bought some Bilsteins last year, the best price I found with shipping included was at Tire Rack.
