Default Shifter or transmission problem??

I have a '68 327, 4spd. The trany hasn't given me any problems before.
Went to a car show yesterday and the shifter wouldn't go into reverse.
Took the shifter panel off the console and watched the linkage, 1st to
2nd good and 3rd to 4th good. Pull up on t-bar and move shifter to left, nothing.Won't move up or down. Took reverse linkage off transmission and moved back and forth, moved freely. Tried to move the transmission reverse lever, didn't move, can't really get a good hold on it to move it.
What do you think, do I have a shifter problem or trany?? Was going to pull the shifter out and clean it and lube it but the manual says it has two bolts and I only see one.
Hate to take it to a shop if I can fix it.
Thanks

If the 1/2 and 3/4 levers are in neutral, you've disconnected the linkage from the transmission and the Reverse lever on the transmission won't go into reverse, its the transmission.

Default Till not sure

Yes I would believe that it's a transmission problem BUT with the reverse linkage off the transmission I can move the linkage back and forth from under the car. When I do that the shifter does not move. And when I come up to the driver's seat and shift it. It still will not go into the reverse pattern with the linkage off.
That's why I'm still not sure.
Anymore Ideas or things I can check or test??
Thanks

I'm thinking linkage, only because of age on a factory shifter. Had a similar problem. My problem was when pulling back out of reverse, it would not properly come out of reverse and bind into the forward gears, locking the shifter and trans up. Many of us have had this problem on a muncie shifter. Had to move all levers manually into neutral. First make sure forward gears are truly in neutral and then you should be able to move the reverse lever on the trans.

Default Going to pull the shifter

Looked at all the diagrams of 4 speed shifters.
I see the one bolt running from the side to the transmission bracket.
Where is the other bolt?? Is it hidden behind something? Can't see it.
Going to clean and check out how the shifter works off the car.
Thanks
