Default Hooker side mount help please

On my 69 Im prefitting the sidemounts. The instructions to cut the rockers are very poor, I have a pair of 70 rockers Im going to cut but need better instruction or a PIC would be great!

I agree the pictures or the template is not good. When I put Hookers on my 72, one side needed significant trimming, the other hardly any at all.

Go slow and mark and trim a little off at a time. I used a Dremel cutting wheel if I recall.

Its going to be a custom job!!

Best of luck.

You dont have the instruction sheet that comes with the pipes giving the dimensions of the cut?

I got it off there web site, Its just a drawing, no words. but Im confused about the front, It looks like the print wants me to cut a 5-1/2 inch V at the front, and that will leave a big ugly gap.
I want to see how others have cut them or better instructions.
Can I install the rockers after the pipes are on, if so then I can custom cut them like Mako said.

Yes, you can install the rockers after you install the headers and you should.

Don't use the measurements Hooker supplies. Each car is different and in most cases each side of each car is different too. On some cars the rockers don't need any trimming or only one side does.

Definitely install the headers and side tubes prior to any cutting. Each car is slightly different. Once you look to install the rocker trim is when you can make the judgement on where/how much to cut by simply trial fitting them. The Dremel tool with a cutting wheel works great - like a hot knife on butter. Good luck!

TOM B1,
Take lots of pictures as you are doing this project and let us know how things go. I know it's hard to take on a project like this with just a little information so as mentioned before, just take it slow. I'm sure there are a bunch of guys (both now and later) that would appreciate a good write-up on this subject.

I used some cardboard and traced the front section of the rockers. Then I slide the cardboard into place and used a sharpie to mark the areas that didn't clear and trimmed with scissors until I had it going in and out of place. Mine was bad enough that I cut the front of the rocker into one piece and the remainder as a second piece to clear the front upper tube.
