bumper parts for the late 70's models to make them look like an 80 and painting said parts. Is it expensive enough where if I want the look of the 80-82 I should just by one?
air conditioner parts. I saw an ad for a car that looked to be in otherwise good condition, but had no A/C. And does the A/C being missing indicate any bigger problems, aside from the obvious hint that the owner might be neglectful?
two questions completely unrelated.
BTW the bike sale is going good so far, $5300 at the auction(waiting for 6100) with a standing offer of $5800 if the auction fails(that's what I paid for the bike last year anyway). Of course the faster the bike sells, the faster I can pick up a vette. Wish me luck.
to answer your question depends on what type of replacement bumpers you decide on. there's fiberglass, tru-flex fiberglass, and urethane. it also depends on who you buy from and whether you're going to fit the bumpers to the car before painting or pay a body shop to do this and the painting. i'm not sure if you are aware of this but vette bodies were hand assembled and are not all precisely the same. therefore the replacement bumpers have to "fitted" to the body. the urethane original type bumpers may still be available,Ecklers may have these, they are the easiest to fit, because they are flexible, they are also the most expensive, the hardest to paint and on the 80 & later rear spoiler, the upper spoiler ridge has a tendency to get wavy in the summer heat. in fact all urethane bumpers even when they left the factory are a little wavy. I would say on the low end $1000, high end $2000, maybe even higher. I hope to replace both front and rear bumpers in the next couple of years along with new paint. i plan on staying with the original 75-79 type bumper in the front, possibly in urethane, but probably in fiberglass. the rear bumper will be an 80 & up style with the intregal spoiler, in fiberglass, so that it doesn't get wavy over time & heat. urethane bumpers will go for over $500 apiece, usually need a flex agent mixed with the paint, which changes the color of the paint and this makes the job a PITA. good luck in your purchase, take your time and if you can attend a major corvette meet, like bloominton gold, or carlisle, you'll get more vette for your $$$ generally. of course there are always exceptions. where i live, $6000 doesn't buy you much of a vette, but if you go to a major meet you'll do better.
