I've been able to get the power antena out of my 81 vette, and found that the cable needs to be replaced. The problem is that the antena broke in the full upright position. What's left of the old cable is inside the tube and I can't get to it to pull it out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for that link.
Do you know if that's the same power antenna as the vette? Mine looks different. I'm thinking that maybe a previous owner put in a replacement unit.
(And unfortunately, the article didn't help with hints on how to get to the cable inside the tube.)
Assuming you have the mast assembly removed from the motor housing, look up through the little hole in the bottom and see if you can see the end of the broken nylon cable. Try spinning the end small mast section around to move the broken end around inside. If you can see it, try getting the tip of a tiny jewelers screwdriver against it while pushing down against the tip.
Otherwise you'll need to remove the piece at the base of the mast tube.
Thanks, Kaps. I wasn't able to see the cable through the hole in the bottom. How do I remove that nylon end cap? I can't figure out how it's held in there.
Look closely at the base of the tube. I THINK that nub that the black rubber water diverter slips over unscrews. I just can't remember
It does on the Late82-and newer ones.
