Default LS3 oil cooler

I have the oil cooler lines attached to my Ls3, but no cooler. Should I get the cooler, or just remove the lines. Space is very limited. Thanks.

The oil cooler was for the cars that are being road raced. If you plan on pulling 1G turns on a consistant basis then maybe. My LS3 did not have the intercooler and I am not going to run one. It is really not needed unless you plan to track the car often.

You should have the fitting that bypasses the cooler bolted to the pan above the filter. Actually, the only factory coolers I've seen were on trucks, probably part of a towing package. You wont need it.

Some of the LS3s in Vettes did have the coolers. I think the Grand Sport models had it and some of the most recent ones do that have a race package on it. Not sure of the exact specs but some of the LS3s did. The road race guys wanted to have them as they had some oiling problems in high G turns.

The trucks used a simple finned U shaped tube.
Did the corvettes get anything more sophisticated?

No, I am not going to be pulling any 1G turns on purpose very often. It is a 2010 Grand Sport with dry sump. It came with everything( except the cooler) and was a good deal. So far, no problem with the oil tank. So, I wonder if there is a fitting to replace the cooler lines, or just plug them both.

There is a crossover fitting that connects the 2 ports over the filter. You must use it, do not plug the holes!!!!!!
It's the same fitting on almost all rear sump pans. The corvette version has an extra port for oil temp.

Thanks Gary,

I am going to check it out tonight. Not quit ready to deal with it yet, I was just thinking ahead. I have much to do still. I am finalizing a home for the oil tank and re-glassing the passenger side inner fender well. Not using the washer bottle so the mounting for that is now gone.

I believe DeWitts has a radiator/cooler combo if I still need to use a cooler.

If you look at this picture carefully you can see the crossover right above the oil filter. I actually removed this one and put in a cuatom made one that has ports for oil pressure and temp. I am running my oil temp gauge off it. If I can find it you are welcome to it.

Readily available from wherever you get your GM parts from,a quick search should find it(I need to find one as well...).I have heard the latest version doesn't have enough meat on it to drill and tap for a sender though.
