I installed a vortec 350 in a 76 vette and the motor runs great as long as I am moving great power good acceleration but at idle I have a dead miss on the number 5 hole. I have changed plugs, changed wires after I did a compression check. still have dead miss on #5. have good compression have watched the plug firing on the manifold and as I stated it runs great except for idle. Was going to do the distributor cap next and was thinking abour the IAC nothing changes when its unhooked just can't see it effecting just the #5. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
When I first read this post, I said "Misstery? Really? Here's a suggestion, learn how to spell!", but then I thought about it for a minute, and said "Ohhhh! Misstery! Now I get it! Actually, kinda clever.".
Anyway, ya gotta go to the basics. Fuel, spark, and compression are the three things you need for an engine to run. You are getting spark, you have compression, the only thing left is fuel. The "vacuum leak on the 8-5 runner" theory sounds like a good direction to go. Good luck, let us know how it works out,
Did you possibly get the plug wires mixed up when you changed them? You might have another cylinder that is firing but not at optimum if you got two wires switched.
