Now that I'm getting close to starting the motor, I (just) noticed there is no (?) tab on this motor like my original oem 1969 SB so you can set timing at idle. It calling for 10 degrees BTDC. The timing indicator just has an "arrow cut" instead of a tab in degrees before and after TDC. Now, I could make a tracing of the tab on the oem motor and get a pretty good idea where the flash point for 10 degrees BTDC would be but is there a more correct way of doing it. In addition, for timing at 4K, which I think they say is 35 degrees, what is the procedure for this?
The harmonic ballancer should have a timing tape, with degrees. Are you using a new ballancer for a ZZ4? How about the flywheel, this is an externally ballanced rotating assy. Al
It's the factory balancer - its an assembled 355 hp ZZ4 - no timing tape is on the balancer. So I just have to get some "timing tape" and affix it to the balancer? Thanks for the quick reply
The timing tape is the best solution. Verify top dead center before you install the tape. The factory mark can be out a degree or two. You might as well get it right.
