oil temp sender location
I've searched the forum to see varying opinions on the location of where folks are putting their oil temperature sending units. I'm going to be replacing my useless clock with an Autometer oil temp gauge. It seems the two most popular places are in the port above the oil filter (Gen 1 SBC) or a port on the oil pan. My thinking is that the oil pan would not be an accurate read because of air flow around the pan cooling the oil, so I'm leaning to the port above the oil filter. Is this the best spot?
Thanks!

I had some interesting results (with a few variables) changing my temp sender location

Thanks for the input. I had not even considered heat from the oil pump. I guess that's as good an indicator as anywhere. If you are keeping things cool near the filter and oil pump then things should be good all over.

Vette427,
I read your thread. It was informative. I like the remote cooler bypass plate.
73sbvert,
If you aren't adverse to Autometer gauges, their oil pressure sending unit is very compact. I was shocked and happy when I opened the box. I will have plenty of room up top next to the distributor.
Thanks for the replies.
