Well I'm at the stage where I'm installing my roller tip rockers into my trick flow heads. Well I start tightening the nut on the first rocker arm and its turning OK but once the nut is completely on the bolt it gets to be VERY hard to turn. Impossibly hard. Jeez!! Can it be so hard to tighten a nut!!!!? I am very frustrated with it right now. Its just a freakin nut. The heads CAME WITH THIS nut. I think I might have stripped the first rocker bolt so I don't want to go further with this. I tried pulling a nut off the old rockers and it was just as bad.
The stock ones were a little hard to tighten up, but this is impossible. I can feel the nut getting very hot as I tighten it which is a bad sign. Anybody have any insights into this before I screw up anything else? :mad :mad :mad
thanks in advance for the help - I really appreciate it. Without your help, I probably would be doing some serious damage to this car right now. . . .

I would switch to poly locks that are compatible with your brand of roller tipped rockers.
The stock style nuts are designed to pinch the stud, thereby creating the extreme holding power necessary to keep the rocker in place and the valve in adjustment.
I removed my stock nuts when I installed a new set of roller rockers and they were hot to the touch also. The stock style nuts you have can eventually degrade the stud to where the valve adjustment won't stay put. I had that problem with an old set of heads/studs. Switched out the studs and installed a set of roller rockers with the poly locks which fixed the problem.
Re: frustrated!!! roller tip rockers install (marky mark)
thanks for the post. I guess its normal then - just seemed a lot tougher than my stock ones. Just didn't want to break anything. I'll try working with these first before I go spending more money. I'll be in the doghouse for sure! :)

Tarry,
Are these locking nuts with the hex head set screw in the middle? If so, you may be hitting the ste screw and working against that. Try loosening the set screw and try it again.

Just posting a follow up. I needed to become more manly and turn them harder. :) Once I did that, they went on strong and secure. So they are on great now. Started the Vette with the aluminum heads AND IT WORKED! No leaks!
Definitely need to tighten up a few rockers. clackity-clack. But no biggie. Its such a relief that everything works. I was a little concerned for a while there. :)
